Extinct Animals
Animals which don't exist anymore are called extinct. Usually animals become extinct because of our doing. Here are some extinct animals for you to see:
Tasmanian Tiger
The Tasmanian Tiger has been extinct since the beginning of the 20th century. It was a marsupial like kangaroos and koalas. It was the main predator in Tasmania which is where it lives. The last one of these died in a zoo in the year of 1936.
Dodo
The dodo bird is one of the mainly recognized species of extinct animals. It was a flightless bird and was slow. They died out because humans who found the remote island it lived on hunted them for food and sport. The eggs were eaten by domesticated dogs and cats.
Great Auk
The Great Auk was a large flightless bird that became extinct in the middle of the 19th century. It was hunted for food. To learn more about the Great Auk, click here.
The Caspian tiger inhabited Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Caucasus, Turkey, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. It is a subspecies of the tiger. The species was also dubbed the Persian tiger. There is much controversy on the date the last one died.
